Anthropic Launches Remote Control for Claude Code: Manage Coding Sessions From Your Phone

Anthropic has just launched Remote Control, a new feature for Claude Code that allows developers to control their coding sessions from a smartphone, tablet, or web browser. The update fundamentally changes how developers interact with AI coding agents.
Key Highlights
- Multi-device control: Start a session on your terminal, continue it from your phone via a QR code
- Local execution preserved: Claude Code keeps running on your machine with full access to the filesystem and MCP servers
- Auto-reconnection: Sessions automatically reconnect after sleep or network disruptions
- Strong security: No inbound ports opened, TLS-encrypted traffic with short-lived credentials
How It Works
The setup is straightforward: run claude remote-control in your terminal, scan the displayed QR code with your phone, and you get full access to your running Claude Code session. You can approve permissions, send messages, and follow code generation — all in real time.
Remote Control creates a synchronization layer between the local CLI session and Claude's mobile or web interface. The agent continues running on the developer's machine, maintaining access to the local filesystem, environment variables, and MCP servers. The phone simply becomes a remote window into the ongoing session.
A Game-Changer for Developer Workflows
The problem Remote Control solves is straightforward: you start a 15-minute task on Claude Code, leave your desk for coffee, and the agent asks for a permission — everything stalls because you're not at your screen.
With Remote Control, that scenario is gone. Developers can supervise their coding agents from anywhere, approve necessary actions, and even start new tasks without being physically at their computer.
"Start local sessions from the terminal, then continue them from your phone. Take a walk, see the sun, walk your dog without losing your flow," says Noah Zweben, Product Manager for Claude Code at Anthropic.
Impressive Numbers
Claude Code has reached a $2.5 billion annualized run rate — a figure that has more than doubled since the start of 2026. This explosive growth reflects the massive adoption of AI coding tools by professional developers.
Availability and Pricing
Remote Control is available now as a research preview for Max subscribers ($100-$200/month). Rollout to Pro plan subscribers ($20/month) is planned for the near future. Team and Enterprise plans are not yet supported.
Some limitations to note: one remote session per Claude Code instance, the terminal must remain open, and sessions time out after approximately 10 minutes of sustained network outage.
The AI Coding Tools Race
This launch is part of a fierce competition among major players. Anthropic with Claude Code, Cursor with its autonomous cloud agents, OpenAI with Codex, and GitHub with Copilot — all are competing to transform software development from a hands-on-keyboard activity to a supervisory role.
