Claude Can Now Create Interactive Charts and Diagrams Directly in Chat

Anthropic launched a new beta feature on March 12, 2026, allowing its AI assistant Claude to create interactive charts, diagrams, and visualizations directly within conversations. The update is available to all users regardless of their subscription plan.

How It Works

Users can ask Claude to "draw this as a diagram" or "visualize how this might change over time." Once created, the visualizations can be adjusted or explored deeper based on follow-up requests.

The feature supports several interactive formats:

Interactive charts: compound interest curves, bar charts, pie charts
Clickable diagrams: organizational charts, flowcharts, system architectures
Educational visualizations: interactive periodic table, step-by-step visual guides
Visual instructions: for example, paper airplane folding instructions with illustrated steps

A Distinct Approach From Image Generation

Anthropic emphasized a key point: "what we are introducing today is not image generation." This distinction highlights the feature's focus on structured diagrams and data visualizations rather than photorealistic images.

The visuals load faster than generated images and support hover and click interactions. They are temporary and conversation-specific, appearing inline within Claude's responses rather than in a side panel.

Competitive Context

The launch follows OpenAI's recent update enabling ChatGPT to generate interactive visuals for science and math concepts. This emerging trend among AI developers signals a push beyond plain text toward richer, more visual communication experiences.

The feature also comes as part of a broader set of recent Claude improvements, including purpose-designed formats for recipes, weather displays, and direct integrations with Figma, Canva, and Slack.

Availability and Limitations

The beta is currently available on Claude's web and desktop applications, but not yet on mobile. Anthropic warns that some quirks may be present given the beta status of the feature.
