Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI), the secretive AI research lab co-founded by former OpenAI scientist Ilya Sutskever, announced on July 27, 2026 that it has secured a $5 billion investment from NVIDIA along with priority access to the chipmaker's next-generation Vera Rubin platform — a deal that will expand SSI's compute capacity by an order of magnitude.

A Bet on Superintelligence Research

"We have research that is worthy of scaling up, and having access to a big NVIDIA computer will let us do so," Sutskever said. "We are confident that our big bet on the Vera Rubin platform will take us to the next level."

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang echoed the enthusiasm: "We are excited to see what new breakthroughs SSI will discover powered by our Vera Rubin platform."

Vera Rubin: NVIDIA's Next-Generation Compute

The Vera Rubin platform is NVIDIA's forthcoming flagship compute system, succeeding the current Blackwell architecture. Named after the pioneering American astronomer, Vera Rubin is designed to deliver dramatic improvements in AI training throughput and is expected to be among the most powerful compute platforms ever built. Access to Vera Rubin systems gives SSI a significant hardware advantage over most AI research labs worldwide.

The agreement also includes a bidirectional technical collaboration: SSI will share insights into the future of AI to inform NVIDIA's compute platform design roadmap, while NVIDIA provides the infrastructure to scale SSI's research.

SSI's Funding and Investors

With this round, SSI's total capital raised reaches $7 billion. The company's investor base includes Andreessen Horowitz, Alphabet, Lightspeed Venture Partners, GV, Sequoia Capital, and DST Global — a roster that reflects broad confidence in SSI's research direction. In 2025, SSI also partnered with Google Cloud for research infrastructure, giving it access to both Google and NVIDIA compute resources.

The new $32 billion post-money valuation makes SSI one of the most valuable AI startups in the world, despite releasing no product to date.

The deal signals that even the most safety-focused AI research organizations now require compute at a scale previously associated only with hyperscalers.
