Revolut announced on Thursday that OpenAI's ChatGPT Go subscription is now a standard membership benefit, giving the neobank's more than 75 million customers up to 12 months of paid AI access at no additional cost. The deal makes Revolut one of the largest consumer distribution channels ever assembled for a paid AI product, and marks a shift in how frontier AI labs plan to reach mainstream users.
"From today, OpenAI's ChatGPT Go is a Revolut benefit," the company said in its announcement, describing it as "a subscription used by almost one billion people weekly, directly to our customers, at no extra cost."
Key Highlights
- ChatGPT Go, normally around £7 per month, is now bundled into every Revolut plan tier
- Ultra customers receive 12 months plus a 12-month Buddy Pass to share with another person
- Metal customers receive 12 months; Premium and Revolut Pro receive six months
- Plus and Standard customers receive three months, rolling out over the coming weeks
- The benefit applies across Revolut's global footprint of more than 75 million customers
How the Tiers Break Down
The length of free access scales with the customer's existing Revolut plan. Ultra sits at the top with 12 months of ChatGPT Go plus a Buddy Pass that extends the same 12-month benefit to a second person. Metal subscribers also receive a full year.
Premium and Revolut Pro customers get six months. Plus and Standard customers — including those on the free tier — receive three months as a promotional offer that Revolut says will roll out in the weeks following launch.
ChatGPT Go sits between OpenAI's free tier and its Plus subscription. Powered by GPT-5.6, it raises usage limits and unlocks file uploads, document analysis, image generation, and persistent memory across conversations. ChatGPT Go has not been launched in the United States or Brazil, so the benefit follows OpenAI's existing market availability rather than Revolut's full footprint.
What Both Sides Said
Tara Massoudi, General Manager for Premium Products at Revolut, framed the deal as part of the bank's push to be more than a financial app. "We want to empower our customers with tools that are part of their entire day, beyond finance," she said, adding that "AI is not a nice to have, it's an essential for everyday life."
Emmanuel Marill, OpenAI's Managing Director for EMEA, said the company was "excited to partner with Revolut and bring ChatGPT Go to millions of customers around the world."
Impact
For OpenAI, the arrangement solves a distribution problem that advertising cannot. Converting free ChatGPT users into paying subscribers has been the company's persistent challenge, and bundling through a bank places the product in front of tens of millions of people who already pay a monthly fee for something else. Customers who accept the benefit arrive pre-onboarded, with billing infrastructure already in place for when the promotional window closes.
For Revolut, the calculation is retention. The company now values its bundled subscription portfolio at roughly €4,100 annually — a package that already spans travel, transport, health, fitness, learning, and entertainment perks. Adding the most recognised consumer AI product to that list strengthens the case for customers to stay on a paid tier rather than treat Revolut as a secondary account.
The partnership also signals where the competitive pressure is moving. Telecoms operators, streaming platforms, and device makers have all experimented with bundling AI assistants. A bank doing it at this scale suggests AI subscriptions are being repositioned from a discretionary developer tool into a utility bundled alongside insurance and airport lounge access.
Background
Revolut has spent several years converting itself from a currency-exchange app into a full-service financial platform, using tiered subscriptions as its primary monetisation lever. Perks bundling has been central to that strategy, with partner benefits used to justify the price gap between Standard and the paid tiers.
OpenAI, for its part, has been steadily expanding into European financial services. The ChatGPT Go deal landed alongside a separate partnership with the London Stock Exchange Group, part of a broader effort to embed its models inside established financial institutions rather than compete with them.
What's Next
The immediate question is conversion. Promotional windows of three to twelve months are long enough to build habit but short enough that renewal decisions arrive in waves through 2027. Neither company has disclosed the commercial terms, or who absorbs the cost of the free months.
Revolut has indicated that an Australian launch will follow the initial rollout. If the benefit measurably reduces churn on paid tiers, expect rival neobanks and traditional lenders to pursue similar arrangements with OpenAI's competitors.
